Lutradur book with Lesley Riley

I had the good fortune to take a class with Lesley Riley http://lesleyriley.typepad.com/ this weekend, where she taught her Lutradur Mini Book. We used this durable material to make a charming book and incorporated a number of techniques, including ink jet transfer and even melting with the Creative Textile Tool. What fun! I used some goodies from the store's ephemera packs http://thepaperfleamarket.com/paper-ephemera-pack.html to embellish some of my pages. Below are images of my finished book.
We melted the page on the right with a heat gun.
We used embossing powder on the right-hand page ... gorgeous!
We used Transfer Artist Paper (www.transferartist.com) to iron-on the background image on the right-hand page.
On the right page we melted the flowers, cut out the leaf shapes and created the scalloped edging with the Creative Textile Tool.

Pretty little cake stands

These are cake stands made with lovely old plates and candlesticks. They could also be used to display candy or soaps or buttons or pins or any little collection of goodies. I saw this idea at a boutique and knew I had to give it a try. I've been picking up charming little plates at thrift shops and yard sales for a little while, without really knowing why (I'm such a paper person, but these just "spoke" to me). Just goes to show you should always listen to that little creative voice inside!

Distressed Treasure Hunt

I was at my favorite kind of sale recently ... one where you really have to dig! At one point, I was literally up to my waist in cardboard boxes, happily digging through the mounds of dust and papers. I stood on a chair and took this picture to give an idea of what lengths I'll go to to find the best stuff for my customers. When I left, I had four boxes filled to the brim with every sort of ephemera you could imagine.
After the sale, I placed my boxes at the curb, so I could bring the car around to load up. As I was turning the car around, I watched in horror as another car backed over the boxes! When I got out, I exclaimed, "You ran over my stuff!" Those who know me, know that I rarely get that animated. The passenger, who had been let out before the driver backed over the boxes, bellowed, "Well, they were in the street!" As the driver was leaving the car, I pointed out that the right front tire was still on a pile of things. While he moved the car, the female passenger added, "Well, he didn't see it!" As they both left the scene of the crime, I offered, most uncharacteristically, "An apology would be nice." So there I was ... left at the curb alone to clean up the flattened remains of my treasure hunt. Now on the plus side, most of what I found *was* paper, so not everything got ruined. And I guess I can honestly say everything was distressed ... including me!

Classy Junque

We're excited to announce that we have a sister store ... literally! My sister has opened an online store featuring an eclectic collection of retro kitchen and home goods, and other wonderful old treasures that don't quite fit under The Paper Flea Market umbrella. To celebrate the opening, she is offering 10% off all orders through the end of March. Just type in coupon code j0910 when checking out. www.classyjunque.com
