Virtual collection

I was at a church rummage sale a few hours ago (an unusal occurrence on a Friday *evening*) and came across these finds. I love treasures like these but have absolutely no place to put them. So I took these pictures and on the drive home, got the idea that it would be fun to create a virtual collection. I've found many wonderful treasures like this over the years to which I've had to "just say no". But now I'm going to start taking pictures ... this way I can enjoy them without having to store them! (By the way, the mannequin was only 5 dollars! She was worn in some unfortunate places and I think I would have been embarassed to look at her everyday, so it's probably just as well I didn't buy her ... although she would have made a good friend for Alice . For those of you who didn't read that entry, Alice is an embellished styrofoam wig stand!)
If I had a baby clothing store, I'd use these for displays ...

ABCs

I went to a book sale today and ... oh my gosh ... look what I found! Vintage ABC books in English and French and German and several other languages. The images are spectacular. I just sat and stared at some of the pages, they were so beautiful. Then I got to thinking ... I can't bear to part with some of these for the store, but it seems a shame to not share these wonderful images. I've always stressed we only sell originals at the store ... but maybe I should start offering copies of some of the more spectacular finds. Thoughts, anyone?

Good news, bad news

Well, the good news is that my altered book is back (see "Angst" from May). The bad news is that the magazine is not publishing it. Well, at least not *this* particular magazine. I'll try another ... On a more pleasant note, I recently acquired several books filled with "ditto masters". For those who are too young to remember, they were the precursors to Xeroxing. Copies were made using a ditto master on a ditto machine and the resulting copies had purple text (and if they had just been run off, they'd still be damp and had that scent that everybody in class had to hold up to their nose and smell!) Anyway, I was playing around with them and found they made awesome masters for gel medium transfers! The original is on the left ... the transfer is on the right on some monoprint paper. Fun!

Pom-poms!

My wonderful mom is here for a visit and today we went to the yarn shop (with my young son in tow). She's a wonderful knitter ... I am not. I tried years ago; I failed and have never really had the desire to try again, but I love looking at all the wonderful fibers. While at the store, my son found a pom-pom maker. When he showed it to me, the wheels immediately started turning in my head ... (ooh, these would be cute dangling from books ... ooh, I could use all kinds of fibers with different textures ... ooh, ooh, ooh!). Once we got home, I could hardly get the package open fast enough! These were easy as pie to make and fun, fun, fun! This is my new favorite I-wanna-make-something-that-doesn't-take-a-lot-of-mental-energy project!

A collision, keys and creating

You know how a day can start out looking really bad and then through some crazy twist of fate it gets better? Well, that's what happened to me today. On the way home from carpool this morning, I had a collision with the stairs in the garage that lead up to the house (I don't usually park in that garage bay and clearly I didn't realize how far out the steps were compared to how low my car's front fender was). On my way back from the body shop to get an estimate, I stumbled across an esate sale where I found lots and lots and lots of keys! Turns out the homeowner's father was a locksmith back in the '50s and '60s. Wow! I'm offering them in packs of 10 on the store site http://www.thepaperfleamarket.com/key-pack-10.html
I had a great desire to paint some papers this afternoon, so when my little boy got home from school, we had a good 2-hour painting session. I ripped and glued paper, collaged, painted and stenciled five sheets. Some days I just love to create without a real goal in mind ... just for the fun of it.
