Deadlines

Oh my golly, I've been working fast and furiously the last 2 weeks to meet a couple of deadlines. Tonight I {mostly} completed the sketchbook I'm submitting to The Sketchbook Project which is sponsored by The Brooklyn Art Library/Art House Co-op. http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject2012
It has to be postmarked no later than Jan 31! Talk about cutting it close. I'll put a few finishing touches on it in the morning then I'm off to the posty office. Hope there's not a traffic jam!
I'll post some more pics later ...

Ta Da!

After some contemplating, I decided to change the name of the blog to what you see up there now. For about 4 years, I've been hiding behind the store, but decided it was time to add my name. So, HELLO OUT THERE! My name is Trina. I am an artist and proprietress of The Paper Flea Market. The store name hasn't changed and the urls to the store and blog are the same. And I'll still be posting about new finds to the store. But now I'll be including little snippets about my artwork, techniques, road trips, great art reads and other fun art+ephemera related stuff! So I hope you enjoy. Welcome to Trina + The Paper Flea!

Housekeeping

On Sunday night, I'm launching a fresh new look to the blog (fingers crossed). In the meantime, I've got a little housekeeping to do, and here's where you come in. I've established a new Facebook page for the store called "Trina + The Paper Flea". If you've "friended" me on my Trina Lucido Facebook page (which was established as a personal page before I knew anything about using Facebook), may I politely request that you "unfriend" me there and "like" me on the new page? You can find the link for the new page right down there in the lower right corner of this blog. I've been told it only takes about a minute. I apologize for intruding on your time, but I think you'll be happy you did. Now you'll only receive notices about the store + special offers, glimpses into my artwork and so forth, and won't be subjected to pictures of me baking Christmas cookies!

Thanks a bunch ... see ya Sunday night!

Fresh finds Monday

Sitting here on this cozy, gray Monday posting away to the store. Here are some fresh finds ... above is a French program dated April 9, 1910.
A paper Ohio driver's license from 1941
An old stencil ... wouldn't this be fun bound into a journal?
The cutest little pair of safety scissors you've ever seen! Also available in red, but only one of each.
A mostly-full box of gummed metallic shamrocks

Pretty as a picture (book)

Thought I'd post a delightful find that's available at the store. Every page of this oversized book from 1941 has a colorful illustration and poem. Would make a lovely framed series in a child's room. Or reduce the images and use them for ATCs. There are 20 images, each measuring 10 x 12-1/2. You can find it here: http://thepaperfleamarket.com/picture-and-rhyme-book-1941.html

Wild about wallpaper!

Had the opportunity to go to a barn sale about 30 miles away and boy was it ever c-c-c-cold! But it paid off within 5 minutes when I found this gorgeous old book of vintage wallpaper! Something about vintage wallpaper just makes me swoon ... the colors, the textures, the patterns. It's one of those things I just can't get enough of. Some designs in this book had coordinating borders and fabric swatches. I'm going to use some in my art journal but will share some in my wallpaper scrap packs which you can find here http://www.thepaperfleamarket.com/vintage-wallpaper.html

New tablets

You know how sometimes you go to Staples just to get white paper for your printer, but then you start looking around and -BAM- you find the niftiest new writing tablets? Well, that's what happened to me today. Since I own a shop, I don't usually advocate shopping elsewhere, but I just *had* to share these with you ... From top to bottom: Project pad with cheery binding Graph paper pad with bright green binding And (drool) a computation book that has numbers stamped on the interior pages that makes it look just like a modern day ledger! This one's made by "Gold Fibre". This would make a *perfect* journal!

Armchair traveler

It may be rainy and cold here today (actually, I'm not complaining because I love a cozy day), but we can dream of Paris, can't we ...? These are from a portfolio of small black and white prints of Paris. You can get it here http://thepaperfleamarket.com/

Magical lettering

Day 2 of Teresa McFayden's "Letter Whimsy" class ... loving it! Today we did block letters and a bit of coloring in with Copic markers (so *that's* how she gets that perfect coverage with such yummy colors!) It's not too late to sign up and join in the fun! http://www.paperbellastudio.com/item_175/Letter-Whimsy-E-Workshop--New.htm

Vintage light

The year has gotten off to a busy start. Was hoping to post every other day or so, but so far, that's not happening! But it's all good. Had a huge response to the treasure boxes (thank you everyone who ordered and if you didn't get to order one, don't worry, they'll be back again this year) and have been busy working on requests for some of my handiwork.
So ANYWAY, I wanted to share these absolutely adorable lamps I had made and just picked up the other day. I saw the idea in a book and thought maybe this could be a DIY project but then realized glass innards + electricity might be a bad combination, so I had them made by a professional. Can you tell what they are? Vintage thermoses! Love, love, love! Was thinking I'd sell them, but now think they need to live with me for awhile.
Hope your new year is off to a grand start!

Happy 2012!

A new year already! A brand new year ready to be whatever you want it to be. What are your hopes and dreams for this year? Mine are to try new things, take some classes, create without comparing my work to others (SO hard for me), draw a *lot* more and complain less (or better yet, not at all) when I'm the last person in line.
Already got to work on the first two. 1) I received a request to make something I've never done before and I did that today (if the piece is accepted, I'll tell you all about it later) and 2) I've signed up to take Teresa McFayden's "Letter Whimsy" class which starts Jan 9. So excited to do that one! Here's the link if you want to check it out, too. http://www.paperbellastudio.com/item_175/Letter-Whimsy-E-Workshop--New.htm
As the holidays wind down, I'm gearing up to post more to the store. In the meantime, I'm clearing out some items, so hop on over and see what's on sale! http://www.thepaperfleamarket.com/
