I call this my "Color Journal". I’ve been saving my colored pencil “nubs” for several years, wanting to use them for a special project. Then one day I got the idea to attach them to the cover of a journal. The base of the journal is an old hardback Reader’s Digest condensed book. I removed the interior pages and then stitched in my own colorful monoprint pages using old paintbrushes as an anchor on the spine. I covered the front with the colored pencil nubs and on the back, I created a collage using an old Crayola box and paper wrappers from crayons. What I particularly like about this journal is that every item that was attached to it … the pencils, brushes and crayons (or the wrappers that were on the crayons) were all tools that I used at one time to create colorful artwork.
