Channeling my inner Eric Carle

You know? The author/illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and so many others? Did you know he painted the tissue paper he used in his collages? The things you learn when you agree to go help the kids at elementary school! I painted a bunch of tissue papers this morning for them to use in their collages today ('cause I knew there wouldn't be enough time for them to paint, dry and collage). I am CRAZY about this technique! I'm off to go paste some in my journal now...

  1. My 4 year old LOVES Eric Carle! I always wondered how his papers had what seemed like several different colors to them. Now I want to try! Maybe you can share how you did yours, what paint, etc. Thanks - hope the kids had fun!

    1. Love this technique! I am interested in how you got the painted tissue paper in your journal. Is the tissue on another sheet of paper and all goes into the journal? Thank you for sharing this great idea!

  2. It's really quite easy peasy ... I used regular old white and colored tissue paper like you find in the gift wrap aisle. Then I used a dry brush and applied craft acrylic paint. Also used a little gesso for white and highlights. Because the paper is so thin, you have to have a light hand. Plus is that it dries very quickly ... now go, create!
